Dr. Gina Pelaez
Traveling Optometrist in Rural Alaska
Dr. Gina Pelaez
Optometrist
Dr. Pelaez (O.D.) has over 10 years of experience in primary care optometry. She was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship Program from the United States Army, and began her active duty career stationed at Fort Carson, CO. She continued serving US service members as a civilian in Germany and South Korea.
Her first experience in Alaska was working a locum tenens position at Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome, where she discovered a deep appreciation for the tundra's beauty and the strength of its people in tight-knit communities.
Dr. Gina believes eye care should be personalized and patient‑centered: she takes time to listen, answer questions, and work together with patients to develop a care plan that fits their life and goals. Her practice philosophy emphasizes clear communication, careful follow‑up, and coordination with other providers when needed so small problems don’t become bigger ones
Dr. Pelaez is a Jersey girl at heart, living in Boston with her two Pomeranians, Douggie and Geri. When she's not traveling all over the state of Alaska you can find her at the hot yoga studio, or hiking around the world (completing the Tour du Mont Blanc, Corsica's GR20, and exploring the Japanese Alps).
